English has always been a subject I have been passionate about. I love the way stories can transport us to different places and times, while helping us understand ourselves and the world around us. For me, teaching English is about much more than reading and writing. It is about encouraging students to think independently, share their ideas and develop confidence in their own voice. Having always worked in the local area, I am proud to continue supporting young people within the Stoke on Trent community. I love seeing students overcome challenges, discover something new and experience those moments when learning finally clicks.
Alongside my role as an English teacher, I also support the development of teaching and learning across the academy. I am passionate about working collaboratively with colleagues, sharing ideas and helping to develop approaches that have a positive impact in the classroom. I believe great teaching is about continually learning, reflecting and looking for ways to improve, and I enjoy contributing to a culture where both staff and students are encouraged to grow and achieve their best.
Outside of school, I enjoy keeping active and spending time outdoors. Long distance running is a huge part of my life, and I recently completed the London Marathon, which was an incredible experience and a challenge I was very proud of. Running has taught me a lot about resilience, determination and setting yourself a goal, qualities I try to encourage in my students too.
What I love most about Haywood Academy is the sense of community and the opportunity to make a difference every day. Seeing students grow in confidence, make progress and take pride in their achievements is what makes teaching such a rewarding career.
