Extra-curricular

We offer a fully inclusive and diverse range of after school activities that are varied on a regular basis to keep the opportunities fresh and interesting.

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an excellent enrichment opportunity for our young people to experience a wide range of opportunities and to discover new interests and talents.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a brilliant tool to develop essential skills for life and work in our students. A recognised mark of achievement and respected by employers, the DofE is many things to many people, but we feel at Haywood Academy it typifies our mission to develop well-rounded individuals with a set of core values that equips them to succeed in life.

The programme is split into four sections: physical, skill, volunteering and expedition. Students can start their DofE Award in Year 9 and have their account until they are 25 years old. During this time, they will make new friends, build on new skills and develop as a person, becoming self-confident, self-managers and having a commitment to our ARCH values.

After-school clubs

As part of our commitment to offering all young people a fully rounded curriculum offer and an education that goes beyond the classroom and timetable, we offer a fully inclusive and diverse range of after school activities that are varied on a regular basis to keep the opportunities fresh and interesting. Click on the link below to see what we have on offer this half term and checkback regularly to see what’s new. Extra curricular activities are attributed to supporting educational development and attainment. We highly recommend that all of our students try at least one a half term – you never know what you might love!

Academic support

Our staff are on hand every day to provide additional support to our learners – students can always drop in to check their understanding of a topic or to ask for advice to skill themselves up on subjects yet to come. At key times in the academic year, there will also be specific and timetabled intervention sessions that will support with key areas of focus with exam skills or curriculum coverage. When these opportunities are available, we will engage with parents to ensure that we can work together to support the outcomes, development and achievement of our learners collaboratively.
