Curriculum Intent – Design Technology

It is the aim of the Design and Technology department to provide students with the opportunity to develop a broad range of theoretical and practical skills and knowledge across all disciplines in the curriculum area: Product Design, Textiles, Food and Engineering. They should develop a wide range of life skills that will support them in their professional and personal lives.

We wish to instill a love for the subject and an understanding of the broad range of careers and options available to them that utilize the skills and knowledge they develop in this curriculum area. Problem solving, resilience and learning from mistakes are an essential part of the curriculum as well as developing a wide range of practical skills. We aim to provide a safe and supportive learning environment to encourage our students to embrace their mistakes and see initial failures as part of the wider learning experience.
