Dance provides students with time to indulge their creative and practical side, elements of theory are embedded to allow students\u2019 knowledge and physical skills to develop side-by-side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the root of dance the aim is to provide a platform for all students to be creative, progressive and find enjoyment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following skills are developed within the performing arts;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

confidence, identity, self-worth, resilience, and compassion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of these skills lead to individuals that are capable of being active citizens within a community, build positive relationships and support health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DANCE CURRICULUM<\/td><\/tr>
 <\/td>TERM 1<\/td>TERM 2<\/td>TERM 3<\/td><\/tr>
Year 7<\/td>Elements of Dance<\/u><\/strong>
Students will learn the four elements and foundations of dance; Actions, Dynamics, Space and Relationships.<\/strong>

They will then apply these to practical movement tasks to produce a final choreographic piece<\/strong> considering a stimulus<\/strong>.<\/td>		Music Television Videos Through the Ages<\/u><\/strong>
Students will continue developing the elements of dance<\/strong> when watching being inspired by iconic<\/strong> music videos<\/strong>.

They will look at the deeper connections to our British values<\/strong> that interlink the videos and the positive impacts they have had on societal issues.<\/td>		World Dance Styles<\/u><\/strong>
Students will study dance styles from around the world focuses on stylistic qualities and choreographic development techniques<\/strong>.

They will learn 5 different styles; Bharatanatyam, Samba, Flamenco, Street Dance and Step Dance<\/strong>, and then consider how to improve phrases using development techniques.<\/td><\/tr>
Year 8<\/td>Dance Through the Decades<\/u><\/strong>
Students will look at how dance has developed<\/strong> through time and learn about styles and qualities of dance from each decade starting in the 1920\u2019s.

They will focus on recapping the elements of dance and choreographic development techniques <\/strong>whilst starting to use their own creativity to create additional motifs<\/strong>.<\/td>		Movie Musicals<\/u><\/strong>
Students will learn professional inspired choreography<\/strong> from famous movie musicals and develop their performance skills<\/strong> as well as consolidating<\/strong> all knowledge learnt to date.<\/td>		Props in Dance<\/u><\/strong>
Students will gain a deeper understanding of dance analysis<\/strong> and critique the use of props within dance.

They will use this feedback to understand how to effectively utilise a prop<\/strong> in dance and devise a final short piece<\/strong> using a prop of their choice.<\/td><\/tr>
Year 9<\/td>Introduction to Key Skills and Styles in Dance<\/u><\/strong>
Students will be introduced to technical abilities<\/strong> in practical lessons, learn how to effectively analyse<\/strong> dance work and learn repertoire working towards a production at the end of term. They will study the styles of; jazz, contemporary, commercial and hip hop<\/strong>.

They will deepen their understand by studying professional works and back grounds within these genres of dance in both a practical and theoretical<\/strong> form.<\/td>		Contemporary Dance and the Media<\/u><\/strong>
Students will focus the style of contemporary dance<\/strong> and how it has progressed over time. They will study key practitioners<\/strong> within contemporary, the impact they had on the dance style and how the media and society has developed dance.

They will learn technically challenging motifs<\/strong> and develop<\/strong> these for their assessment.<\/td>		Devising Dance<\/u><\/strong>
Students will use the skills learnt to use their own creative skills in order to choreograph a dance<\/strong> piece based on a brief<\/strong>. They will experience the entire choreographic process<\/strong> and devise a piece considering how productions progress from \u2018page to stage.\u2019<\/strong>

They will gain knowledge on how stage and film dance pieces are generated and work as a group<\/strong> to pitch and produce<\/strong> a piece of their own.<\/td><\/tr>
Year 10<\/td>Introductions to BTEC Dance and Key Skills<\/u><\/strong>
Students will gain a deeper understanding of the BTEC Tech Award in dance and start to learn and develop key skills<\/strong> that will contribute to the course.

They will look at technical, creative and theoretical<\/strong> dance skills. The main focus will be on preparing for component one with a focus on writing and literacy<\/strong> skills and analysing dance.<\/strong><\/td>		Component One \u2013 Exploring the Performing Arts<\/u><\/strong>
Learners will develop their understanding of the performing arts by examining the work<\/strong> of performing arts professional<\/strong>s and the processes used to create performance.

They will investigate how professional performance<\/strong> or production work is created and demonstrate understanding of the skills, techniques and approaches<\/strong> used by professionals to create performance\/production work.<\/td>		Component One \/ Component Two Preparation<\/u><\/strong>
Component One finishes Students will spend the remainder of this term practicing technical and performance skills<\/strong> in preparation for their component two task in year 11.<\/td><\/tr>
Year 11<\/td>Component Two – Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts<\/u><\/strong>
Learners will develop their performing arts skills and techniques through the reproduction of dance repertoire<\/strong> as performers.

They will understand the rehearsal process<\/strong>, apply skills and techniques in a performance<\/strong> and review own development<\/strong> and application of performance skills.<\/td>		Component Three \u2013 Responding to a Brief<\/u><\/strong>
Learners will be given the opportunity to work as part of a group<\/strong> to contribute to a workshop performance as a performer in response to a brief and stimulus<\/strong>. Students will apply skills learnt prior to this component to understand how to respond to a brief, select and develop skills and techniques<\/strong>, apply skills and techniques<\/strong> in a workshop performance and evaluate the development process and outcome.<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
