{"id":15997,"date":"2024-09-19T13:23:07","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T12:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clt.haywood.coop\/?post_type=news_post&#038;p=15997"},"modified":"2025-10-17T10:17:39","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T09:17:39","slug":"speedy-students","status":"publish","type":"news_post","link":"https:\/\/clt.haywood.coop\/es\/news_post\/speedy-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Speedy Students!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Six of our students from Years 8 to 11 attended KMF in the Community\u2019s Young Engineer of the Year event at Mallory Park on Thursday 19<sup>th<\/sup> September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had a 6am start from Haywood to drive to the race event in time for a practice session<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We then had two 90-minute endurance races in which the car that goes the furthest distance is the winner (not necessarily the fastest.) It is a real balancing act between speed and making the batteries last the full 90 minutes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All cars have the same motor and the same type of batteries, so it was down to the design and engineering on the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were in the lead for both races for a long time, but the batteries faded towards the end each time and overall for the event we came 3rd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also achieved second place for the &#8216;best engineered car&#8217; competition so that&#8217;s two more trophies for the Haywood trophy cabinet!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well done Team!<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Six of our students from Years 8 to 11 attended KMF in the Community\u2019s Young Engineer of the Year event at Mallory Park on Thursday 19th September.
