Ecological exploration considering Stewardship and our responsibility to look after the planet | What is it like to be Muslim? Understanding Muslim beliefs and exploring the impact of the media on how Muslims are received in the world. Why is the Buddha important today? Looking at the origins and key beliefs of Buddhism and a typical day in the life of a Buddhist monk. |
Year 8 | Is religion relevant today? Questioning if religion makes a difference to how people act in the world. Why is there discrimination in the world? Looking at the background to discrimination and slavery and how we can make a difference in the future. | How is Sikhism relevant today? Understanding the key beliefs of Sikhism and how Sikhs live their daily lives. | What do we believe about life after death? Exploring our own beliefs and the beliefs of others- religious and non-religious. How can we be spiritual through Art? Students will explore how art is used in various religions and enter the national ‘Spirited Arts’ competition. |
Year 9 | What do Christians believe? Understanding Key Christian beliefs. How do Christians live their lives? Looking at forms of worship and Christian practices. | Why is there evil and suffering in the world? Debating if God is all loving, why is evil allowed to exist in the world. | How was the world created? Considering Myths, Scripture and the various creation arguments. |
Year 10 | How are beliefs expressed through Art and Literature? Exploring Art, Literature, Sculpture, Icons, Contemporary and traditional music. | What do Muslims believe? How do Muslims live their lives? Learning about Muslim practices, the five pillars and the ten obligatory acts, | What are Sources of Wisdom and Authority? Debating questions such as, Where does the Bible come from? Should Christians obey their conscience or the Word of God? |
Year 11 | Can we prove the existence of God? Looking at scripture and revelations that attempt to prove the existence of God and debating their reliability. | What does religion say about relationships in the 21st Century? Considering attitudes to marriage, Divorce, Sexual relationships and Gender roles | Revision and exam preparation |
