Year 7 | Anglo Saxons – Explore life in the Anglo-Saxon period with focus on Crimes, Law enforcement and Punishment. Normans – Explore William’s conquest of England, before focusing on how he maintained control. | Middle Ages – Students explore the world of England in the Middle Ages and investigate the power of the State vs that of the Church. | The Tudors – Students explore the reign of the Tudor’s, with particular focus on the tension created by their policies that were influenced by religious change. |
Year 8 | The 1600s turned upside down – Students explore the chaos of the 1600’s such as the Gunpowder Plot, Witch hunts and the Civil War. The British Empire – Why was it was created and/or able to expand. | Slavery within the Empire – Students investigate the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Britain’s role within it. The Industrial Revolution – investigate the changes to peoples’ lives in the 18th and 19th centuries with a focus on urban life. | World War One – Students discover the key events of WW1 with a focus on the experiences of a soldier. |
Year 9 | The Interwar Years – Students explore the changes that took place in Germany after WW1 and factors that led to extremism. The Holocaust – Students investigate the escalation of persecution that led to the mass murder of over 6 million Jews. | World War Two – Students examine the key turning points of WW2 and decide which event was most important for the development of the war. | The Cold War – Students investigate the key events of the Cold War and consider the changing relationships between the USA and the USSR. |
Year 10 | Superpower Relations and the Cold War 1945-1991 – Therelationship between the USA and the USSR from the end of WW2 up to the collapse of the Soviet Union. | Early Elizabethan England 1558–1588 Elizabeth’s reign, plots to take her life, the execution of Mary Queen of Scots and the Spanish Armada. | Crime and Punishment – c1000 to present day – The influence of the Church in medieval England, Gunpowder Plotters, the Witch Trials, the Death Penalty and Jack the Ripper. |
